I've had a bit of a crap month and am quite happy it's ending, lots of things have contributed to this general feeling of crapness, the main one is the lack of a studio or workspace, coupled with the fact I've had to register myself as Self-Employed and then the Mail Man pushed a Jury Summons through my door! I spend a portion of the month wallowing in self pity and trying to pry the cold tentacle of the "Real World" from around my ankle before it dragged me off into the land of Mortgages, Taxes and Civil Servants [I don't even know what a Civil Servant is? other than Beetlejuice informs me that people who commit suicide become them in the Afterlife].
So I moped around, felt sorry for myself and basically reverted to my 14 year old self, I blamed everyone and everything for the lack of a studio and the rest of my "so called problems" [from Uni right through to Terrorists] before a meeting with my friend Melly made me realize that pretty much all art graduates are in the same boat as me. SO long story short I gave myself a good talking too, cleared my desk of all the junk that's been squatting there for the past year and made myself a tiny space [in my already tiny bedroom] in which to work, don't think I'll be able to paint much but I can draw!!!!
Another encounter with my best friend Annmarie gave me multiple ideas and a few leads to follow up [but I don't wanna say too much just yet...] so after what seems like forever I am actually sat down at my desk drawing and fucking loving every second of it!! And the best part no group crits or pretentious know-it-all tutors!!!

Aimee just emailed me a link to this guys work and its Amazing!! Me and Aimee both worked with paper [and books] and paper cuts last year, but in completely different ways yet we had similar influences. Seeing this work actually makes me want to start cutting and stencilling again, i love how something so delicate can look really menacing [of course the skull helps] but to me papercuts like this make me think of spider webs and nets - basically anything that can ensnare you...

Found this awesome Darth Vader Helmet in a charity shop today [its fast becoming my favourite shop] not sure if the voice changer works yet [need batteries] having it makes me feel like a kid again playing Star Wars with hand-me-down toys, think it might find its way into some of my drawings - assuming I can find somewhere to paint :(
I know I started this blog with a rant comparing the pretension in Uni to the Dark Side but I have to clarify that I mean that it a metaphorical sense, no way was anyone or anything in Uni cool enough to be Vader!!

I was quite sad to hear that the genius John Hughes had died, I know most people wouldn't really consider films like 'Uncle Buck' 'Breakfast Club' 'Ferris Bueller's Day Off' and 'Pretty in Pink' cinematic masterpieces but I kind of do. They're basically feelgood movies and both the films and Hughes have been inspirational to me in my work and sketchbooks, so marvel at all the clips I found on youtube and if you can afford it go out and buy the above 4 films and enjoy some of the greatest movies of the 80's [and some of the most genius uses of music within a film]
